Kid's concert planning

Here you can start planning group pieces beforehand, so that kids can have time to practice. Do you find this valuable?

Perhaps Jessie and Ariana might be like to prepare a piano four-hands duet to play together. I don't know anything about piano four-hands, sadly--any ideas? Do you find this valuable?

Since Jonah Krolik is bringing his cellist son to week 2, a lot of things become potentially possible that didn't used to be. For example, piano trios. We've got a couple of violinists and a couple of pianists, I know. would anyone like to suggest an appropriate piano trio? Do you find this valuable?

I remember as a kid playing a movement from a Beethoven piece for violin, flute and viola (it's very well known, but I don't remember the name--maybe someone might supply it?) If we got a ringer in to play viola, perhaps that might be fun for Imani and Elena to work on? (Emma is playing some viola these days--as a former Kid, maybe she'd be interested). Do you find this valuable?

Hi Elizabeth,

Jonah could handle the Haydn or Mozart piano trios. Another great option for flute, violin, and cello would be the Haydn London trios. In most of these works, though, the cello part is technically easier than the others. He could also handle some easier Romantic or 20th century music.. There are some beautiful short string trios by Schubert, for example.

Another question (for you and for other parents) is: how many pieces like this do you think he'd want to prepare? Are we thinking one or two? Do you find this valuable?

Hi Elisabeth! It's Beethoven Serenade, Op. 25...looks like that will be on a faculty concert too this summer, Week 3. Do you find this valuable?

I'd be happy to fill in parts in the kids' concerts, but really the kids should get first dibs, even up to rearranging pieces for the ensembles we have. Maybe we could rewrite the viola part for cello? What other instruments do we have? Do you find this valuable?

Hi Elizabeth,

Finally figured out that I need to sign up for this discussion board so hopefully I'll get your posts in my email. Any update on what kids are coming during Week 2? Still planning to bring Jonah so would be a good time to decide on some repertoire with cello so he can start learning it.

Looking forward....

Thanks,

Jeff
