Youth Concerts - Bennington Chamber Music Families

There have been Youth Concerts every year at the Conference since at least 1992, usually in weeks 2 and 3 (the classic kid-heavy weeks). The concert traditionally occurs shortly after the Saturday Participant Concert, and plays to a packed and enthusiastically supportive audience.

Organized (and usually MCed) by Faculty Cellist Maxine Neuman, the concerts feature students at all levels; though piano, strings, and flute have been the most common instruments, performances have also included pieces for trumpet, voice, saxophone, and ballet. Concerts typically involve both solos and ensemble works, which latter have included duets, piano trios, string quartets, and concertos for soloist and string orchestra.

Youth Concerts - Bennington Chamber Music FamiliesSome performances have been carefully premeditated, with ensemble repertoire determined and prepared months in advance of the Conference; others have been entirely spontaneous, and most fall somewhere in between. In general, performers meet once or twice during the week to play through the program, find out what needs practice, and get ensemble coaching from Maxine and other parents.

Here you can start planning group pieces beforehand, so that kids can have time to practice.
